About Porthtowan
Porthtowan is a small village on the north coast of Cornwall in south-west England, renowned and revered by both local residents and holiday visitors for its beautiful sandy beach and excellent surf rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean. The famous South West Coast Path (‘The Salt Path’) passes by on one of its most scenic, varied and challenging sections, between St. Agnes and St. Ives.
Easily reached in just 90 minutes via the new A30 road from Exeter, Porthtowan is the ideal holiday location for anyone who loves the great outdoors. Most of Cornwall’s most stunning scenery and some of the best surf beaches anywhere in the world are within an hour’s drive, and much of it is much closer. It’s a great place to visit if you're looking for a peaceful getaway with beautiful, natural surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere.

“Porthtowan is great. It has places to eat, a village shop, fish and chips and a family friendly beach with the most stunning sunsets! Really enjoyed our stay and was sad to leave such a beautiful place.”
Gavin P
“Lovely holiday destination, accommodation had everything you need, walking distance to a couple of nice pubs, cafe and gorgeous beach. No phone signal in the bay but the lodge has good Wi-Fi and felt good having no coverage out and about.”

Both communal and private sessions are offered, but you will need to book well ahead of time to make sure it´s available during your stay. The year round location is a ten minute drive or thirty minute walk from Towan Valley to the hilltop location. Summer sessions are also available close to the beach. It’s now easier to get to your favourite holiday destination
No more queues to get here!
In the summer of 2024 a new section of the A30 finally opened, making it dual carriageway all the way from Exeter to within 5 miles of Porthowan. It's still 90 miles, but now just 90 minutes driving time. At the end of a long journey on a hot summer's day that's a big difference and makes Porthtowan the most accessible and most convenient base for your holiday in Cornwall. Almost all of west Cornwall, from Padstow to Penzance and from Land's End to the Lizard and Looe is less than an hour's drive away, with many of its best beaches, coastal paths and other attractions much closer than that.
You can enjoy the scenery on this new section of road too, with panoramic views across west Cornwall from the north coast to the south. The giant wind turbines at Carland Cross and the forest of small ones at Chiverton are truly impressive. With many acres of unobtrusive solar farms in between the turbines it's easy to see how Cornwall can now produce all of its electricity needs from renewable sources on a typical summer's day.
